Dhenkanal, September 14, 2024: Tata Steel Meramandali (TSM) successfully conducted a full-scale emergency mock drill at its Coke Oven Gas Holder area on September 13, 2024. The drill, simulating a gas leakage scenario, aimed to test and enhance the plant’s emergency preparedness.
The drill was witnessed by key stakeholders including Er. Puspamitra Jena, Assistant Director of Factories and Boilers, Dhenkanal Zone, Sangita Das, District Emergency Officer, Dhenkanal, Prashant Dhal, District Fire Officer, Dhenkanal, and members of the Dhenkanal District Crisis Group, including representatives from local industries such as GMR, Nava Ltd, RimJhim, MGM, Rungta and JSPL.
Senior officials from TSM, including Vilas N Gaikwad, Chief Safety, Harpanahalli Maheshbabu, Chief, SMS and LCP, Virendra Singh, Chief, Coke Plants, Anoop Srivastava, Chief, Environment, Kumar Varun, Head Process Safety, and other senior officials actively participated in the exercise.
Following the drill, a detailed briefing was provided by the Site Incident Controller, Combat Team Leader, Rescue Team Leader, and Auxiliary Team Leader. Industry representatives and guests commended the efficiency and effectiveness of the exercise, emphasizing the critical importance of such drills in preparing for real-life emergencies.
As per The Odisha Factories (Control of Major Accident Hazards) Rule, 2001, it is required to conduct District Crisis Group (DCG) level mock drill once in six months.
Through such simulated exercises, TSM continues to reiterate its commitment to ensuring ‘Zero Harm’ and underscore the significance of industry emergency preparedness.
