Amphan now a ‘super cyclone’; landfall on West Bengal coast on Wednesday evening

  • The IMD has warned light to moderate rainfall over Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the next 24 hours.
  • Coastal Odisha is likely to have light to moderate rainfall at many places and heavy rainfall at isolated places from May 18.
  • Coastal districts of Gangetic West Bengal are expected to have rainfall until May 20. Wind speed may go up to 155 kmph along and off West Bengal coast.

Cyclone Amphan has intensified into a super cyclone from an extremely severe cyclonic storm on late Monday afternoon. The cyclone is rapidly moving towards the coasts of West Bengal and Bangladesh, where it is expected to make the landfall on May 20. The states of West Bengal and Odisha are on high alert.
