On the occasion of Utkal Diwas, Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik today visited Cuttack and paid his last respects by unveiling statues of Mahatma Gandhi and Utkalmani Pandit Gopbandhu.

Mahatma Gandhi was a staunch supporter of the formation of a separate state of Odisha.

The Chief Minister first unveiled a statue of Utkalmani Pandit Gopbandhu at Gopbandhu Square on Cantonment Road in Cuttack. It is named after the Statue of Humanity. When it comes to humanity in Odisha, Gopabandhu is first remembered. Gopbandhu has always been a source of inspiration for the great work of helping the poor, the poor and the needy. So he was the great inventor of humanity. The Chief Minister hoped that the idol of Gopabandhu would inspire the masses for the service of the poor Narayan for centuries as a symbol of humanity.

The centenary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi’s arrival in Odisha have been held across the state since March 23. During the first leg of his visit to Odisha, Mahatma Gandhi addressed a public rally on the banks of the Cuttack Wood River. Today, Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik also inaugurated the High Relief Mural Sculpture, built at Bell View Square in Kathyodi, in memory of Mahatma’s arrival in Odisha. His ideals and policies, including the scenes of Gandhi’s various movements, are beautiful.

Truth and non-violence is India’s greatest contribution to the world. As a priest of non-violence, Mahatma Gandhi has given a new direction to the whole world and is becoming more and more relevant in today’s world.

Mahatma Gandhi visited Odisha eight times between 1921 and 18 and traveled to different parts of Odisha to get acquainted with the problems of the state. He also strongly supported the formation of a separate state of Odisha. On the occasion of Odisha Day today, the Chief Minister hoped that the ideals and ideas of the two great men of the twentieth century, Gandhi and Gopbandhu, would inspire the youth to work more dedicated to the country and the nation.
