Tata Steel Meramandali Strengthens Safety Measures with Successful Emergency Drill

Dhenkanal, February 1, 2024: Tata Steel Meramandali (TSM) conducted a mock emergency drill at its plant in the presence of members of Dhenkanal’s District Crisis Group (DCG). The drill focused on hazardous situations involving the potential leakage of LPG from a hose during unloading from a tanker.

The drill was attended by Puspamitra Jena, Assistant Director, Factories & Boilers, Dhenkanal Zone, Ipsita Baliarsingh, District Emergency Officer, Dhenkanal, Sangita Dash, District Project Coordinator, Dhenkanal, Karunakar Samal, Assistant Fire Officer, Angul, and other members of the DCG from various industries. Adhering to the Onsite Emergency Preparedness Plan (OSEP), the teams demonstrated their proficiency in managing the emergency.

Senior personnel from TSM, including Rajesh Agrawal, Chief Power Systems, Vijaynath Mishra, Head Utilities and Amit Sarangi, Head Water Systems, played a pivotal role in accordance with the OSEP guidelines. TSM’s Safety Department, under the leadership of Agam Kumar, Chief Safety and Kumar Varun, Head Process Safety, meticulously organised the drill.

Puspamitra Jena, Assistant Director F&B, commended TSM’s management for the effective demonstration of emergency preparedness and provided suggestions for improvement. The District Emergency Officer suggested extending such demonstrations to real-time emergencies. Representatives from local industries, including Nava Ltd, GMR Ltd, Rungta Mines and Angul Energy Ltd shared valuable feedback and appreciation for the drill.

Through such simulated exercises, TSM continues to reiterate its commitment to ensuring ‘Zero Harm’ and underscore the significance of industry emergency preparedness.
